Abstract

Calcium titanate (CaTiO3), a perovskite-type oxide, has garnered significant attention in recent years due to its
unique structural characteristics, high chemical stability, strong catalytic activity, non-toxic nature, and ease of
synthesis. Here, we investigate the crucial aspects related to the morphology and properties of CaTiO3 (CTO) film
obtained by the hydrothermal method from titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube template and Ca(OH)2 precursor
for biomedical applications. Following the discussion of CaTiO3 film characterization, the advantages of CaTiO3
film will be introduced, such as their high surface area controlled by the morphological parameters, which
provides better adsorption of bioactive molecules. The corrosion properties resistance of CTO film were evalu
ated and demonstrated to be significantly enhanced compared to the original Ti substrate. We further discuss in
vitro cellular compatibility on the CTO film. In addition, the unique properties and structure of the tested CTO
film contribute to its ability to slow drugs releasing. The present investigate also overviews the current state of
heterostructure, surface properties, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and drug delivery applications of
CaTiO3 film on Ti for biomedical applications.
